Venice is a city in the northeastern part of Italy. It is the capital of the Veneto region and the province of Venice too. Venice is  nicknamed La Serenissima (“The highnessest”) and its historic center is located on some of the larger islands in the lagoon of Venice.

Venice was the capital of the Republic of Venice until 1797 and one of the largest European cities. Until the 16th century it was one of the biggest commercial cities and the centre of trade between Western Europe and the eastern Mediterranean. Venice provided on of the biggest armadas of merchant ships and warships. The nobility has its benefit from the trading in luxury goods, spices, salt and wheat and so Venice became the largest financial center and dominated a colonial empire, which extended from northern Italy to Crete and at times up to Cyprus. After the French and Austrian rule from 1798 to 1866, Venice became part of Italy.

Venice and its lagoons are on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites since 1987. They have very often had an inspiring effect on artists, and Venice was one of the most visited cities by tourists. For a century, the economic structure of the old town is based towards tourism, while industrial activity primarily to Mestre and Marghera focused on the western mainland.

The historic center of Venice consists of 118 small islands, which are connected by more than 400 bridges and form a coherent urban area. This area is divided into six administrative districts antique, called Sestieri, divided from those on either side of the Grand Canal are three. The County of San Marco with the majestic cathedral and the elegant Doge’s Palace is one of the places with the largest number of tourists and is the most expensive area of the city. North of San Marco is the Cannaregio district in the east is Castello, both are quiet neighborhoods that are well worth for a visit. On the other side of the Grand Canal are the districts of Dorsoduro, Santa Croce and San Polo, the latter is the liveliest and most commercial district on this side of the Channel.

But enough of the history and neighborhoods of Venice … Our POP PILOT® Pilot Watch VCE is no less fascinating and has a beautiful combination of golden-brown dial and red strap – in short: just elegant and stylish!
